The 2018 Vintage was the hottest year on record and will be regarded as one of our greatest years for red wines for the level of fruit intensity, with our Lake Shiraz being the pinnacle. Set next to the spring fed dam near the back gate of the property this shiraz block is referred to simply as ‘The Lake’. Floral, fresh fruit aromas lift from this wine with a tightly wound red and blue fruit core on the palate supported with subtle use of French oak for structure and typical Hunter Shiraz notes of dark spice for complexity.

“Grown on the old vine Lake block on the estate vineyard, 15% whole-bunch fermented, matured in French puncheons. Lots of gamey, savoury, earthy regional character on the bouquet, but the red berry fruit is the anchor. It’s generously built in Hunter terms, ripe and flavoursome, but the palate length and tannin are the outstanding features.” – Steven Creber
The 2018 vintage will be regarded as a great vintage in the Hunter Valley. With well below average rainfall through Winter and Spring, budburst was two weeks early and in the Summer period, the dry conditions continued. These consistently warm, dry days resulted in the driest year on record and one of the earliest harvests in history and some of the most concentrated fruit flavours we’ve seen.
Enjoy now and over the next 20 years.
Dark purple/red with bright violet hues.
Violets, red and blue fruits, with dried spice.
Intense ripe mulberries and cherries, with a framework of fine tannins and fresh mineral acidity.
